first edition Soft cover
1935
by Stein, Gertrude; Various Students
1935. 1st Edition. Soft cover. Very Good. In January 1935, Gertrude Stein delivered a lecture on "How Writing is Written" to the students of the elite boys boarding school. Published much later in the second volume of "Previously Uncollected Writings of Gertrude Stein", the lecture was first published in the Choate Literary Magazine, Volume XXI, No. 2, February 1935.
In the Literary Magazine, Stein's lecture is placed alongside the students' own varied literary efforts, including a short story about an aspiring poet whose conventional work is accidentally transformed into a modernist sensation by careless erasure, leading to effusive praise from Ezra Pound, James Joyce and Gertrude Stein herself.
75 pages in stapled wraps. Chipping to the edges of the wraps, pages clean and unmarked. 10 x 7 (Inventory #: 2024-Q170)
