DL consignment. Shelved Room C. Kenneth Grahame was born March 8, 1959 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Grahame would spend much of his career working at the Bank of England. His position there allowed Grahame time to write, eventually leading to his first work "The Golden Age" in 1895 followed by "Dream Days" in 1898. Following a near-death experience after a man nearly shot him in 1903, Grahame retired from the bank and began gathering the stories he told his young son Alastair about Toad, Mole, Ratty, and Badger into a manuscript that would soon after become "The Wind in the Willows".
"The Wind in the Willows" was first published in 1908 and told the tale of Mr. Toad's obsession with motorcars and his friend's attempts to stop him alongside several disconnected stories of their adventures. Though initially receiving negative reviews, "The Wind in the Willows" has since become a classic reprinted across the years and receiving numerous film and stage adaptations. 1389856.
