first edition
1937 · New York
by Hemingway, Ernest
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1937. First edition. Near Fine/Very Good +. A bright Near Fine copy of the book, one that has always been protected by the jacket. Minor bumping to corners of boards and some offsetting from the publisher's glue at the gutters, but a fresh, unread copy. Very Good+ price-clipped jacket with a small split at the foot of the spine, a crease on the rear flap, some foxing, and a small splash to the spine panel, only visible from the verso. Despite the flaws a handsome copy of the book.
One of Hemingway's minor novels, but perhaps one with the greatest film adaptation with William Faulkner participating in the screenplay, Hawks directing and Humphrey Bogart opposite Lauren Bacall. The film was Bacall's first and the chemistry between her and Bogart was palpable, leading to Bogart's third divorce and fourth and final marriage. Near Fine in Very Good + dust jacket.
