The Harlem Renaissance poet's response to the 1931 Scottsboro Boys trial where nine young African American men were unjustly tried in court. Golden Stair Press, founded and run by Hughes and Taylor and backed by Carl Van Vechten, raised $1400 in funds to aid the cause surrounding the controversial trial; scarce.
