Original oversize black and white photograph (11' x 13 7/8") SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY Sidney Toler in ink lower right -"Sincere Regards to 'H. Stubbins' from Sidney Toler as 'Charlie Chan' 1943". Near Fine, two tiny closed tears left edge, small corner creases, "Los Angeles in pencil top left corner verso. Sidney Toler (April 28, 1874 - February 12, 1947) was an American actor, playwright and theatre director is best remembered for the 22 Charlie Chan films he starred in between 1938 and 1946. He was the 2nd European-American to star as the Chinese-American detective.taking over the role after Warner Oland died in 1938. He did the first 11 films with 20th Century Fox Studios. After they retired the series at the start of WWII, Monogram Pictures acquired the rights and starting in 1944 Toler did 11 more Charlie Chan movies with them. A great Association Inscription, H.(oward) Stubbins was a Monogram Pictures executive and head of its West Coast franchise. An uncommon signature. .
