1942 · Universal City
by Marie McDonald (subject); Ray Jones (photographer)
Universal City: Universal Pictures, 1942. Three vintage publicity photographs of singer and actress Marie McDonald, dated variously between 1941 and 1942. Studio stamps and the stamp of photographer Ray Jones on the verso, and two with printed mimeo snipes affixed to the same.
McDonald signed with Universal in 1942, and would go on to become one of the top pinup girls in the US during World War II. She is perhaps best remembered today for faking her own kidnapping in 1957.
From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and was the first still photographer to win an Academy Award. He went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures, where he worked well into the 1950s.
8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus to Near Fine. (Inventory #: 164552)
