Russell 'Watercolors & Illustrated Letters' exhibition at the Amon Carter Museum (1992). Charles Marion Russell (1864-1926) also known as C. M. Russell, was one the great American artists, who helped to define the enduring visual image of the western cowboy. Russell created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Indians, and landscapes set in the Western United States, in addition to bronze sculptures. Russell was also a storyteller and author.
