New York: Scribners, 1884. This is plate XXV from the series of 27 matted chromolithographs entitled "American Yachts," published by Scribners in 1884, It presents a view of ice boats on the frozen Hudson River, with skaters and observers in the foreground, and ice-boaters on their boats, behind. Interestingly, it's an international event. One of the boats flies an American flag while another hoists a British pennant. The lithographs in this series were made by Charles Armstrong after watercolors by Cozzens, and are signed and dated in the print. The label on the verso reads, "Artist's Proof. No. 24 / American Yachts / Plate XXV / Ice Boating on the Hudson / Avalanche, Gypsie, Icicle, Haze / Whiff, Echo / By Frederic S. Cozzens" Site and subject matter make this one of the most desirable prints in the series. Please inquire about other antique yachting prints in our stock. . Matted color lithograph.
