first edition Hardcover
1969 · Oxford
by Farnie, D.A.
Oxford: Clarendon Press / Oxford University Press, 1969. Hardcover. 860p., illustrated with numerous tables and graphs and just three maps, b&w line-maps, two folding out, one a doublespread. An unused, fine copy, hardbound in OUP's classic black cloth gilt and enclosed in a sound but lackluster dust jacket (described below). As intimated, the book itself is perfectly square and firm; both pastedowns bear bookplates, the front one belonging to what must be a private collection as it does not google, the other an unspecified vendor's label with a holograph acquisition date. Neither sticker is pleasing, but both are unobjectionable. As for the dj, it is a pale canary yellow with white titling (hard to read) with its subtitle in a legible black font. Flap texts are not informative. Once again, a fine copy. (Inventory #: 333136)
