1795. [MEISHO-KI] AKISATO Ritô 穐里籬島 Settsu no Kuni Dai Ichinomiya SUMIYOSHI MEISHO ZUE, 摂津の国第一宮 住吉名所図会 5 volumesOsaka, Kansei 7 [1795] 26.2 x 18.2 cm. Original covers and title labels. Illustrated by Okada Gyokuzan, [1737 - 1812] who illustrated many meisho-ki gazeteers of the period, including such classics as the MOROKOSHI MEISHO ZUE. A well respected Osaka artist, he was the student of Tsukioka Settei. And of course Akisato was the author of many such guides... Profusely and skillfully illustrated... Our copy includes ads and a colophon.... which clearly state that the artist is Gyokuzan. As a sidenote, the folks at the Edo Tokyo Museum, who have posted a digitized copy of all the pages online, who have a similar copy, but without the ads or colophon, have identified the artist as Utamaro! Oh my! Let the cataloguer beware. This copy is in near fine condition throughout, with a good state of impression. An excellent example of this important genre.
