1830 · Exeter, Massachusetts
Exeter, Massachusetts, 1830. Fair. Some leaves loose, at least two or three sometime excised, dust soiling, staining, wear to extremities.. Manuscript account book kept by Benjamin Clark of Exeter, Massachusetts (dates unknown), between 1824 and 1830. The account book has been filled with what appears to be debts owed to Clark, as well as mileage traveled. A representative example of the entries: "Mr. John Gardner, Debtor 20 Pounds of veal at 6 cents 1.20 April 12 1828". Meat, cheese, corn, and dairy appear to be the most common products sold by Clark (or perhaps borrowed against?). Single vol. (7.5" by 6" ), approx. 20 blank leaves all filled with manuscript in original marbled paper covers with leather spine.
