first edition
1970 · Bloomington
by MULLER, Herbert J.
Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 1970. First American Edition. Octavo. 24cm. Publisher's sea green cloth titled in gilt to spine. Dustjacket. [xiii]; 431pp. Very light wear to the cloth, extremely handsome; internally clean; in a bright pictorial dustjacket with some shallow chipping and wear to the spine ends and a little soiling to the paler portions. A very good, clean copy.
Muller's very creditable attempt to provide a study of the consequences of technological advancements upon human society. Originally written as a prophetic look towards the turning of the millenium, it holds its position as a piece of 'canary in a coal mine' style thinking as technology provides the potential for bringing us closer together, but very often works practically in the opposite direction. Written from a reference point long before the internet, TikTok, and the every day carrying of a pocket computer, yet still being able to divine something of the effect rampant tech proliferation might have. (Inventory #: 85371)
