by Adrian Wisnicki and Andrew Boese
Optics Press and Bindery, 2024. Thick Quarto. Limited edition of only 15 copies. The present copy is #4 and signed by the producer Andrew Boese. In the late 1950s, Boeing produced a supersonic long range surface-to-air missile capable of a nuclear payload. These pilotless aircraft were named Bomac (Boing Michigan Aeronautical Research Center) and would function as the air defense of North America until their deactivation in 1972. Andrew Boese found that Thomas Pynchon did some writing for Boeing through the Bomarc Service News. Boese found how difficult it was to obtain those BSN issues let alone read them. Thomas Pynchon was not the main attraction when these issues were first printed. His name never appeared within the issue and the issues were never intended to be read outside of the small group of Boeing employees working on the Bomare project. Andrew Boese has painstakingly restored each issue to its original glory, ensuring that its essence is faithfully captured for future generations. And what magnificent work he has produced as with all of his books. Handsomely restored, designed, printed and hand-bound in ΒΌ yellow leather over decorative cloth, spine labels blue with white lettering and brown with white lettering, in a pictorial clear mylar dust jacket housed within a decorative cloth covered slipcase lined in velvet. An extraordinary new production.
