Uncommon limited edition portfolio of offset lithography by foundational regional artists, including several members of the Dallas Nine. This large-format collection of lithographs, noted as "Southwest Artists Series — Number One," features work by a number of important early 20th century regional painters such as Charles T. Bowling, Edward Eisenlohr, Alexandre Hogue, Merritt Mauzey, and more. In his foreword, Texas artist, critic, and academic Jerry Bywaters describes the collection as "historical and topical" highlighting how "E.G. Eisenlohr was among the first of 'contemporary' Texas artists to use lithographs" and that "Mauzey, Hogue, Bowling and Brown were some of the first artists to own their own lithographic presses and produce their own prints." An elegant production. 16'' x 12''. Original portfolio with pictorial boards, backed in brown cloth. Light blue endpapers. 12 loose "facsimile reproductions printed by means of photo-mechanical offset lithography," with a foreword by Jerry Bywaters. Edition limited to 525 copies, with 450 offered for sale; this copy no. 360. Boards with light edgewear and rubbing, small scattered spots of soil. Foreward with gentle toning at top and bottom edge. A couple of prints with faintest dampstain at edges or verso, else crisp and bright.
