New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce. Very Good in Very Good dj. (c.1946). First Edition. Hardcover. [light shelfwear, slight bumping to upper rear corner, heavy age-toning to pages (typical with this book); the jacket is a bit edgeworn, with light surface-scuffing, a teeny bit of paper loss at the upper rear corner, internal brown paper tape reinforcements at spine ends, some wear/wrinkling at spine ends, small closed tear at bottom of rear panel]. Hard-boiled suspense yarn about a Chicago tough guy who comes to Santa Fe, New Mexico, seeking revenge for a double-cross. One of this underrated author's most notable works, in large measure because of the stylish film noir made from it by Robert Montgomery (who both directed and starred) in 1947. . (Inventory #: 29993)
