by McGuane, Thomas
New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Very Good+ in Very Good dj. 1973. First Edition. Hardcover. [age-toning to top edge of text block, some fading to cloth at top and bottom edges of both covers, Hollywood agency label (Ziegler-Ross Agency) on front endpaper; the jacket has a couple of small but slightly ragged closed tears and some associated creasing at the top of the front panel, a bit of edgewear and a couple of little nicks along the bottom edge of the rear panel]. The author's third and best-known novel, it was the second of his books to be adapted for the screen (the first was his first, "The Sporting Club"), and one of only a handful of cases where the author himself directed the movie version. The 1975 film (set, like the book, in Key West, Florida) starred Peter Fonda, Warren Oates and Margot Kidder (who got involved with McGuane during the filming and became Mrs. McGuane, for a year or so, the following year). The presence of the agency label suggests that this very copy might have been connected, at least tangentially, with its transformation into the film, but I haven't researched this. .
