The HSCA was a follow-up to the Warren Commission, around 15 years later, that occupies a greatly diminished space in the American memory comparatively but nonetheless churned up significant evidence about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy that had not been available before. The acoustic evidence they uncovered that was highly indicative of multiple shooters, which, taken with other information, led them to conclude that a conspiracy of some sort was likely. Chief counsel G. Robert Blakey was a proponent of the mafia-did-it theory of the assassination; in recent years he has become a vocal critic of the CIA's covert interference in his investigation.
