Title page within an ornamental woodcut frame featuring ten portraits of Latin poets and writers on the sides and the nine Muses and Britannico's device at the bottom. With 4 woodcut vignettes placed at the beginning of the Bucolics, the Georgics, the Aeneid, and the final section containing Virgil's minor and spurious works, entitled Opuscula. Woodcut historiated initials. Text printed in two or three columns. Colophon and register at l. CC4v. Contemporary flexible vellum, inked title on spine. Small repaired hole to the title page not affecting the text, ink stain to the book edge, a very good, genuine copy with contemporary annotations.
Rare Brescia edition of Virgil's collected works with the commentary by Maurus Honoratus Servius (fl. 4th-5th century). The edition also includes the Life of Virgil by pseudo-Donatus, a dedication to Cardinal Giulio de' Medici by Pierio Valeriano (1477-1558), a note to the reader by Britannico, Étienne Dolet's (1509-1546) Annotatiunculae, the Annotationes by the poet and orator from Cremona Giovanni Musoni (fl. 16th century), an index of names, and, at the end, Maffeo Vegio's (1407-1458) continuation of the Aeneid.
