by Randolph, A. Philip [Editor]; Chandler Owen [Editor]; George Frazier Miller; W. A. Domingo
New York: The Messenger Publishing Co, 1922. First Edition. Good. Volume IV, Number 8 of the influential periodical which played a large role in the Harlem Renaissance. Pp. 457-472. Quarto. Original white stapled wraps printed in black, text in two columns. Good with old vertical creases, soiling, wrinkling and wear throughout. The four main pages of Randolph's "Reply to Marcus Garvey" are marred by two soiled scrapes that have left a small paper loss with loss to text.Randolph and Owen, who already disliked Marcus Garvey and believed his program to "repatriate" native-born American black citizens to Africa was illogical and far fetched, became incensed when they learned he had secretly met with the KKK. A "Marcus Garvey Must Go" movement was launched in their July issue, and Randolph and Owen began a vigorous editorial campaign against Garvey.
