Major geological work on the prehistoric sea that once covered most of western Utah, eastern Nevada and southern Idaho. The Great Salt Lake is a remnant of the once massive body of water. Grove Karl Gilbert (1843-1918) was an explorer, a geographer, and a geologist whose 75-year-long life spanned an age of heroic geology.
