On location in the snowy Sierra Madre mountains for The Gold Rush, Charles Chaplin, in costume, directs and works with his crew. Filming proved to be too problematic, with the only location shot used in the final film being the opening shot of the miners heading up Chillcoot Path. Chaplin recreated the atmosphere of the locations on the backlot of his small studio in Hollywood.

This is the film for which Chaplin wished he would be remembered for.
