2008 · Milwaukie OR
by Shelley, Mary Wollstonecraft; with pictures by Bernie Wrightson
Milwaukie OR: Dark Horse Books. Fine. 2008. 2nd printing (see notes). Hardcover. (black cloth with silver foil lettering and oval pastedown illustration affixed to front cover; no dust jacket, as issued) [a beautiful, as-new copy with no discernible wear; bound-in ribbon bookmark]. (pen and ink drawings) SIGNED by illustrator Bernie Wrightson on the half-title page, also dated "12 03 10" in his hand. The Shelley classic, immeasurably enhanced by the illustrations of renowned graphic artist Bernie Wrightson, whose stunning pen-and-ink drawings (41 full-page, one double-page, two double-spread endpaper illustrations, and a title page design) embody the artist's wish to evoke the style of early nineteenth-century woodcuts and steel engravings. A beautifully-produced edition of one of Wrightson's crowning achievements (on which he worked for seven years) and possibly the most significant published visualization of the novel since the famous Lynd Ward edition of 1934. Although it's not stated very prominently within the book itself, this was the 25th anniversary edition of the book that was originally published by Marvel Comics in 1983; the Introduction, by Stephen King, is reprinted from the original edition. NOTE that while this book is stated on the copyright page to be a "First Edition, 2008," the number line just below that statement ends in 2, hence this is a second printing of the 2008 edition. ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this heavy book; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.
