Original engineering drawing in ink and watercolor

United States, 1898. Nineteenth-century engineering drawing depicting the rotation of a screw, shaded in bright blue watercolor, dated “7-26-1898” and signed “C.S.R.” A striking artifact of American industrial education, at the intersection of art and science, in what appears to be its original frame. Ink and watercolor on paper, measuring 8.5 x 12.5 inches, initialed and dated at lower right corner. Housed in a contemporary wooden frame measuring 10.5 x 14.5 inches. A few stray smudges to drawing; old label with effaced numeral “20” to head of frame beneath integral hanging loop; some scuffing and chips to wood. (Inventory #: 1004035)
