first edition Wraps
1919 · Dublin and London
by O'Casey, Sean or P. O Cathasaigh
Dublin and London: Maunsel & Co., Ltd, 1919. First Edition. Wraps. Very good. The first account of the Irish Citizen Army, a small paramilitary group of trained union volunteers formed by James Larkin, James Connolly, and Jack White during the Dublin strike of 1913-14. This is also the first published work by Irish playwright Sean O'Casey (1880-1964), who served as General Secretary of the Irish Citizen Army. O'Casey used the Gaelic form of his name (O'Cathasaigh) for his early work (the initial "P" in this booklet is a misprint). Small octavo: [vii], [1, blank], 72 pp. Original printed gray paper wrappers. Typical mild toning to the contents. Small chip to the bottom corner of the front panel; otherwise very good. Housed in a custom cloth chemise. Ayling and Durkan A9. (Inventory #: 78238)
