United States, 1960. Very good. Light toning, dust soiling, a little wear to covers.. A sketchbook with original artwork kept by a fashion student in the 1960s, charting their journey through the history of fashion across the globe. The sketchbook contains three elements. The first element is a series of eighteen (18) pages with over ninety (90) illustrations that have been cut out of an unidentified children's book of the history of fashion, labeled with a typewriter, and pasted into the sketchbook. Each depicts a different nationality's traditional or representative dress. They are arranged in alphabetical order, from Anglo Saxon and Alaska to Venice and Zanzibar. The second element begins a leaf before the first section ends, and is comprised of approx. fifteen (15) pages of original watercolor artwork depicting approx. one hundred ninety-five (195) different traditional costumes from around the globe. Each is labeled with information such as date, style, and design (e.g. "1762 French Taffeta Ruching Pagoda sleeves"). The final element in the sketchbook is a group of ten (10) leaves stapled to the lower cover, each with long typewritten captions corresponding to approx. twenty (20) original pencil drawings of children's costumes colored with watercolor. They are attributed in colored pencil: "from English Children's Costumes -- Brooke"). Sadly there is no artist's name on this sketchbook, or any indication of whether this was a school project or just for fun. Single vol. (9" by 12"), approx. twenty-eight (28) blank leaves with scraps pasted in, original artwork, and several typewritten pages stapled to lower cover, all in original spiral bound covers. Upper cover printed in red with image of lake house on front and title: "Talent Art Tablet For Professional Artists and Students
