New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company. Near Fine in Very Good+ dj. (c.1943). Later Printing. Hardcover. (price-clipped) [faint shelfwear only to book, a nice clean copy; the jacket has only a touch of wear at several corners and a tiny horizontal scrape near the right edge of the front panel, and would also rate Near Fine but for the price-clipping]. (pen & ink drawings) The third Mary Poppins story, and the last to depict the magical nanny doing her "arriving and leaving" thing. (As Wikipedia explains, the five later books in the series all "recount previously unrecorded adventures from her original three visits.") As with the other M.P. books, the publishing details on this one are a bit difficult to pin down. The book was originally published by Reynal & Hitchcock in 1943, but this printing (although unstated beyond the original copyright date) dates from the 1950s, as indicated by the Harcourt, Brace & Co. imprint on the title page, the base of the book's spine, and the front jacket flap (where it's also credited as "A Reynal & Hitchcock book"); it's worth noting, however, that at the base of the jacket itself it states only Reynal & Hitchcock. (The merger of Harcourt, Brace & Co. and R&H took place in 1948; Harcourt, Brace & Co. did not become Harcourt, Brace & World until 1960. So NOTE that if you see a Harcourt, Brace edition being offered as a "first edition, first printing," it ain't.) . (Inventory #: 30031)
