New York: Reynal & Hitchcock. Near Fine in Very Good dj. 1946 (c.1935). 10th printing. Hardcover. (price-clipped) [faint shelfwear to book at lower extremities, clean inside and out; the jacket has a couple of small tears along the top edge, a tiny chip at the upper rear hinge, a chip at the base of the spine, and a tiny nick at the front flapfold; quite presentable in a new mylar cover]. (pen & ink drawings) The first sequel to the original Mary Poppins story. Although the original printed price at the lower corner of the front flap has been clipped, there is a new rubber-stamped price ($2.50) at the upper corner, which suggests that this edition was sold sometime in the 1950s (although the book itself is a stated 1946 printing); the jacket itself, however, had apparently not been altered from its pre-1943 design, as there is no mention of the third book in the series ("Mary Poppins Opens the Door"), published that year, in any part of the jacket copy. (The rear flap is devoted exclusively to a blurb about the first book.) Despite this bibliographical confusion, it can be confidently stated that this is an attractive vintage printing, bearing as it does only the Reynal & Hitchcock imprint (R&H merged with Harcourt, Brace & Co. in 1948, and eventually Harcourt began putting their imprint on later printings of the M.P. books). .
