Text in black and orange within green rules. Bound within original vellum Gregorian chant sheets by a narrow orange leather spine lettered in gilt, housed in the original orange silk and black card slipcase. Original prospectus laid in. Slipcase a little worn around the edges; contents fine.
§ One of 85 special copies bound in 13th century vellum leaves of Gregorian chants (four-stave not five-stave and hence early) and with the initials hand-colored by the artist William Wilke, of a total edition of 385 numbered copies. Printed on the 25th anniversary of the San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906, a new edition of the classic biography of San Francisco's patron saint, in the English translation of Emma Gurney Salter. A handsome tribute to both the saint and the city by one of San Francisco's finest printers. (Inventory #: 126724)
