London: Geoffrey Bles, 1953 Illustrated by Pauline Baynes with a black and white frontispiece and many in-text black and white drawings. First edition, first printing. Publisher's blue cloth, with spine lettered in silver foil, and a map of Narnia to front endpapers; in its original green dust jacket, with illustrations to front panel and spine, lettered in black and white. Good book, with moderate toning to spine cloth, abrasion damage to lower part of front board, some soiling to cloth, boards slightly warped, some pages creased at bottom corner, and light offsetting to front free endpaper; good clipped dust jacket, with light toning to spine, some chipping to spine ends, top right of front panel, and corners, a small burn mark to front panel illustration, some nicks and small closed tears to edges, and light soiling and a faint crease to the rear panel. Overall, a decent copy of the fourth book in C. S. Lewis' beloved Chronicles of Narnia series. The Silver Chair centers around Eustace Stubb, the reformed cousin of the Pevensie children who first appeared in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1952), and his friend Jill Pole. The two, escaping bullies at their school, The Experiment House, stumble upon Aslan's Country. Aslan tasks the two children with finding Prince Rilian, the son of the aging King Caspian X. The two go on a harrowing adventure in search of the Prince, encountering giants, the Queen of the Underland, and a knight in black armor. The Silver Chair is the fourth book published in the seven-book series, and the sixth book chronologically. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Dust Jacket Included. Illus. by Pauline Baynes.
