1849 · New York, New York
New York, New York: David B. Pike, 1849. Very good. Letter folds, spotting/light discoloration in places.. Printed flyer from July 1849 advertising a new hardware business located in lower Manhattan, selling everything from axes, hammers, hatchets, knives and vices to window shades, tanners' tools, locks, wrapping paper and counter scales. Also promotes "Dick's Anti-Friction Press for Punching and Pressing, also Hoisting-- a very superior article". Includes the name of the proprietor at the foot, David B. Pike. Today, 7 Platt Street has been transformed into a massive luxury residential skyscraper, leaving little evidence behind of the hardware store mentioned in this flyer. An important reminder of New York's ever-changing, palimpsest-like history and landscape.
