by Norris, Frank
New York: Doubleday, Page and Co, 1903. First Edition. Octavo. . 421 pp. The story of a fictitious narrative of a "deal" in the Chicago wheat pit. This was going to be part of a trilogy; The first was The Octopus, a Story of California and the third The Wolf, a Story of Europe which was never written as Norris died from complications of an appendix operation. If completed, they would have formed the story of a crop of wheat from the time of its sowing as seeds in California to the time of its consumption as bread in a village of Western Europe. A very nice copy bound in red cloth lettered and centrally stamped in gilt, pictorial gilt spine, previous owner's tasteful bookplate, minor light wear to spine ends and corners, a couple of rub spots to upper board.
