All the Pretty Horses tells the story of John Grady Cole, a young rancher who finds his life at a crossroads and embarks on a journey to Mexico. It was Cormac McCarthy's first commercially successful book and won the National Book Award and National Books Critics Circle Award. In 2000, the book was adapted into a film directed by Billy Bob Thorton, and starring Matt Damon and Penélope Cruz.
