by [Native Americans]
Rooseveltown, N.Y.: Akwesasne Notes, 1976. Very good.. Lithograph poster, 17.5 x 22.5 inches. Minor dust-soiling and edge wear. A rare poster issued by the Mohawk Nation as part of a series of works under the title, Akwesasne Notes, during the United States Bicentennial in 1976, here referred to as "The Native American Revolution Bicentennial - 200 Years of Resistance." The illustration on the poster is best described by the explanatory caption at the bottom: "This poster, entitled 'Shrine of Hypocrisy; is of the U.S. Mount Rushmore National Monument, joined by Sitting Bull surveying the scene, The Black Hills, where the monument is, were guaranteed to the Lakota People in the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868 and as the quotation by Old Joseph (Chief Joseph's Father) says, the land was never sold to the U.S." OCLC reports just a single copy under the caption title or Shrine of Hypocrisy, at the International Institute of Social History in the Netherlands, but examples likely reside in other institutional collections.
