In the publisher's original blue-gray paper cloths, with minor staining to the back panel, smudging across the front panel, detached covers with some chipping along the hinges, pages with only very minor discoloration on the back endpaper and top corners of the first pages, otherwise bright pages. A pamphlet containing F. Tompkin's 19th century adaptation of Shakespeare's 16th century poem "Venus and Adonis," which is based in part of Ovid's "Metamorphoses." A rare piece of Shakespeariana, the front cover states, "Upon the wild horizon of public idiocy, and fear, Shakespeare's Venus, an oasis undimmed, shall ever shine to cheer.". 1st Edition.
